Agrecovery currently has product stewardship schemes for the collection and recycling of small seed feed and fertiliser bags, small agrichemical containers, and large agrichemical drums, which fit our acceptance criteria. We do not yet have a scheme for recycling bailage/silage wrap, although we do plan to expand our offering to include recycling bailage/silage wrap in the future. If you already have a collection booked or would like to book one, call Plasback on 0508 338 240. Please note that Agrecovery and Plasback are two separate organisations/companies.
The way Agrecovery runs our chemical recovery programme is by hosting a collection event every 1-2 years in each region around the country. Agrecovery is a not-for-profit charitable trust and unfortunately we haven’t been able to host any of these events recently due to a lack of funding. We are hoping to start these events up again in the second half of 2025 and we will notify all Agrecovery members when an event is scheduled for your region.
To book in your agrichemicals for drop-off you must first take a registry of all products. You can do this through your Agrecovery account or by completing this chemical booking form and emailing it to info@agrecovery.org.nz.
We require the following information: Chemical name, manufacturer (if from a participating brand and sold in an HDPE plastic container 60L & under in size, it is free to dispose of), pack size and remaining volume, state (liquid or solid), condition of container.
If your chemicals were purchased in an HDPE (No. 2) plastic container and are from a participating brand (list attached) then the costs will be covered by Agrecovery. If your chemicals were not purchased in an HDPE container (e.g. a bag, box, tin) or are not from a participating brand then it will come with a cost, on average this is $10/L or $10/kg.
Once your booking is in the system it is stored until we next plan an event in your region. Agrecovery would then notify you of this event and confirm the location, date etc. If you are unable to store the chemical safely or are wanting to dispose of it sooner, Agrecovery recommends contacting a chemical contractor (such as EnviroWaste) directly. Agrecovery does not have any locations where chemicals can be dropped off due to health and safety requirements.
Once you have filled out the ‘Register’ page on the Agrecovery website, you will be sent an email to confirm your email address. This is required to complete the registration process and acquire a member number. Unfortunately, this confirmation email can, on occasion, get lost in the junk or spam inbox. The link within the email to confirm your email address is only valid for 24 hours. If you can’t find the email, please look in your spam or junk folder. Otherwise, contact Agrecovery who can either resend the confirmation email or confirm your email on your behalf. Once this step is completed, you must login to complete the registration and view your member number.
The email address you registered with would have been sent a confirmation email upon registering. This email includes your member number. If you cannot find this, we recommend checking your spam folder. If the email still can’t be found, please contact Agrecovery to get your member number.
If you’re looking to have your silage or bailage wrap collected, Agrecovery does not offer this service. Please call Plasback on 0508 338 240.
If you’re looking to have your small bag liners collected, we do not currently offer this but are looking to offer this in the future. Please use one of our small bag drop-off sites in the North Island or South Island.
If you’re looking to have your large agrichemical drums collected, you may either book through members.agrecovery.co.nz or by contacting Agrecovery. Please note that the drums must meet our acceptance criteria, including being triple rinsed. Any drums from participating brands which fit our acceptance criteria are collected at no charge. Drums not from a participating brand can still be collected as long as they meet our acceptance criteria, but a fee will be required for collecting. This will be emailed as an invoice one week after creating the booking. We do require either a minimum of 1 IBC (1000L) drum or 4 drums sized 61L or over for an on-property collection. If you do not meet these minimum requirements, we recommend either waiting to acquire more drums or dropping your drum(s) off at one of our drum collection sites.
If you’re looking to have your small agrichemical containers collected, you can either book through members.agrecovery.co.nz or by contacting Agrecovery. Please note that the containers must meet our acceptance criteria, including being triple rinsed. The containers must either be from a participating brand or be covered by user-pay stickers. You can purchase user pay stickers from members.agrecovery.co.nz or by contacting Agrecovery. We do require a minimum of 500 agrichemical containers (0-60L) for an on-property collection. If you do not meet these minimum requirements, we recommend either waiting to acquire more containers or dropping off your containers at one of our container collection sites.
When attempting to book a bulk on-property collection of agrichemical containers, you may have noticed that the page states that ‘You have not been pre – approved for Bulk Container Bookings. Your request will be sent to Agrecovery for approval’. Please note that this does not affect your ability to make/save this booking. ‘Pre-approval’ is granted by Agrecovery staff to members who make regular bulk container bookings and who keep their containers in good condition, ready for collection.
When a bulk container booking is made, Agrecovery staff will reach out to the member to gain confirmation that the containers are triple rinsed, meet our acceptance criteria, and are not over or underestimated in quantity. Once confirmed, Agrecovery staff will approve the booking to then be sent to the contractor.
Members with ‘Pre-approval’ essentially skip this step, as Agrecovery is already aware of the quantities and standards of which they book for collection.
If you have booked to have your small agrichemical containers collected, these should be collected within 3 months of making the request. Initially, we allow the contractor one month from the request date to complete the collection.
If you have booked to have your large drums collected, these should be collected by the set ‘collect-by’ date outlined in your booking. Agrecovery collects large drums on a quarterly basis during the months of February, May, August, and November.
Please note that delays may be experienced depending on the time of year. For example, at the end and beginning of each year, Agrecovery experiences high volumes of requests by both sites and members, meaning our contractors may have to prioritise clearing sites over on-property collections. Agrecovery will keep you updated on any delays as they arise, and we endeavor to collect as soon as possible.
You can access your activity report by either logging in to members.agrecovery.co.nz or by contacting Agrecovery. Please note that your username to login is likely the email address you registered with. If unsure of your password, use the ‘Forgot Password’ function. If you aren’t sure of your username, please contact Agrecovery who can provide this to you. Once logged in, please follow our guide to downloading your activity report.
If you have run your report and nothing has occurred on the page, please ensure that you’re using Google Chrome as your internet browser and that your device settings have pop-ups enabled/unblocked. If the report has been downloaded but says ‘Nothing to report’, your drop-offs may either not have been recorded or may have been recorded to a different account. In this instance please contact Agrecovery to retrospectively amend this.

Agrecovery endeavors to clear permanent collection sites within two weeks of the site requesting to be cleared. If completely full and requested by the site, Agrecovery will email local members to inform them that the site’s drop-off service is currently closed. Another email will be sent when the site has re-opened for drop-offs. If you need to make a drop-off immediately, please see our site list to determine where the next closest drop-off site is located.

Please note that you do not need to book ahead if you are making a drop-off to a permanent collection site. If you’re dropping off large agrichemical drums, please ensure that the site is one of our large drum drop-off sites. Please ensure that your large agrichemical drums and/or small agrichemical containers meet our acceptance criteria, including being triple rinsed. If you’re unsure of how to triple rinse, please see our triple rinse guide.
Please ensure that your small bags meet our acceptance criteria. You may drop loose bags off at any of our Farmlands small bag sites’ communal receptacles/bins. Please note that this drop-off will not be recorded. If you have 25-100 bags, please ensure that you have filled out the liner order form and fill the liner with your small bags. Please ensure that you tie off each liner with one of the coded zip-ties provided as each code is assigned to your member number so the drop-off can be recorded to your activity report/account.
Once you have ordered your liner(s) through the liner order form, they should arrive within 10 working days. Please note that if you live rurally, this may take a further 1-2 days. Once your package has been collected from our depot/office, you will be sent an email with the tracking information. This will be sent to the email address which you provided when filling out the order form.
