Agrecovery Celebrates Milestone Anniversary standard

Agrecovery, the not-for-profit charitable trust that provides New Zealand farmers and growers with nationwide programmes for the disposal of unwanted agrichemicals, and the recycling of plastic containers, is celebrating 15 years of operation. Back in 2005, both users and suppliers of agrichemicals recognised the need to provide stewardship for used agrichemical containers, culminating in the formation of the Agrecovery Foundation and the subsequent launch of the first container recycling programme in mid-2007. Since its inception, Agrecovery have recycled nearly 3.5 million kg of plastic containers and over 165 thousand kg of expired or unwanted agrichemicals have been recovered from the rural environment. Agrecovery and Plasback join forces standard

The two main plastic collection programmes in New Zealand’s primary sector – Agrecovery and Plasback – have agreed to work together to improve the services they provide farmers and growers. Agrecovery chief executive Tony Wilson and Plasback commercial manager Neal Shaw say the two organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding. It will see them join forces to provide the most efficient and cost-effective means to collect and recycle used farm plastic. “Our focus is on finding the best ways to meet the needs of primary producers,” Tony says. “Agrecovery and Plasback have different and complementary strengths and areas of expertise. Agrecovery is excited to announce that PGG Wrightson Turf is the newest brand to become part of Agrecovery’s LDPE Product Stewardship Scheme. They join Valagro and our two founding brands of the scheme - BASF and Yara. You can now recycle low density polyethylene bags (LDPE or No.4 plastic) from these four brands for FREE!* How do I get involved? The Agrecovery LDPE recovery programme allows farmers and growers to responsibly recycle approved No.4 plastic bags for free. Bags must be 25kgs and under and from participating brands - BASF, Yara, Valagro and PGG Wrightson Turf.
