Free recycling of agri-plastics in Hurunui
Agrecovery is trialling a free drop-off service for your agri-plastic in the Hurunui District between 19 February and 13 March 2025.
MOST AGRI-PLASTICS ACCEPTED

- Agrichemical containers
- Small seed, feed or fertiliser bags
- ½ and 1 tonne bulk bags (FIBCS)
- Bale wrap and silage pit covers
- Plastic mulch
- Irrigation pipes
- Plant & tree guards

The trial operates on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis; short wait times may occur during busy periods.

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
Proper presentation of plastic is essential. Please ensure you follow the criteria below or your plastic may be rejected. Agrecovery reserves the right to decline any plastic that is deemed to be not acceptable.
PREPARE YOUR PLASTIC:
- Ensure all plastic is clean and free of contaminants and excessive dirt.
- Plastic must be seperated into product types.
- Where possible, separate outer and inner wrap linings.
- Bale wrap to be delivered loose or in Plasback or Agrecovery liners. Liners can be obtained free from the Amberley Transfer Station, Cheviot Library and Service Centre, or Amuri Library and Service Centre.
- Silage pit covers tied up as manageable 2 metre bundles.
- Irrigation pipe rolled into coils or cut into 1 metre lengths.
PLEASE NO:
- Household, construction or industry plastic or rubbish
- Stones and excessive dirt
- Tape (sealing bale wrap tears)
- Metal (wire etc.)
- Effluent pipe
- Netting
WHAT IS CONTAMINATION?
Contamination in recycling such as dirt, stones, wire, excessive residues, and mixed plastics, can pose health and saftey risks, damage processing equipment and prevent materials from being accepted for recycling.
ABOUT THE PILOT
Agrecovery operates the only nationwide agricultural recycling programme accredited by the Minister for the Environment. This pilot is testing the design and implementation of the Green-farms Product Stewardship Scheme – a nationwide regulated scheme for the recovery of all farm plastics.
