Agrecovery has welcomed government moves to encourage recycling and recovery of agrichemicals and plastic containers. A discussion document released today by Environment Minister Amy Adams is a big step towards improving the management of waste agrichemicals and their packaging. Agrecovery Chair, Graeme Peters says “This process, when completed, will hopefully make it compulsory for companies which make and sell registered agrichemicals to be part of a product stewardship scheme.” This would be supported by Agrecovery and the 60 companies which have supported it over the last seven years of operation, during which Agrecovery has recycled 650 tonnes of plastic and helped dispose of 30 tonnes of unwanted or expired agrichemicals. Compulsion will remove free riders – those manufacturers who refuse ...
This fact sheet explains how the Commerce Act might apply to product stewardship schemes. It is designed to give businesses a better understanding of how such schemes can be operated so that their benefits can be achieved without breaching the Act.
Agrecovery Rural Recycling is returning to Taihape to hold another free container recycling event following the success of the November 2013 collection. Local businesses Farmlands, PGG Wrightson and Ruapehu Farm Supplies are again supporting the Agrecovery initiative which will be held on 2nd April. Last year, the one day collection netted over 600kg of plastic that might otherwise have been burned or buried on local farms. “We promised that if we got a good result last year, we’d be back,” says Duncan Scotland of Agrecovery. “We hope to have an even better collection this year.” Farmers and contractors can bring their empty, triple rinsed agrichemical and animal health plastic containers to Ruapehu Farm Supplies at 118 Hautapu Street, between 10am ...
Get recycling and be into win!
Young Farmers and Agrecovery Rural Recycling have joined forces to encourage you to recycle your plastic farm waste, protecting both your land and our environment.
According to a recent report by Environment Canterbury potentially around 700,000 kg of containers are burned, buried in a farm pit or stockpiled in Canterbury each year.
What could that figure be for the whole of NZ? 3 million? 4 million? That’s a lot of containers every year!
Thanks to the support of nearly 60 brand owners, Agrecovery offers a free recycling programme for more than 3,000 commonly used agrichemical, animal health and dairy hygiene containers. Instead of being burned or dumped, your empties could be recycled to "go another round"!

Environment Canterbury are reminding farmers that after 1 January 2014, they will not be allowed to burn agricultural plastics including agrichemical containers and agricultural wrap.
Getting a handle on non-natural rural waste in Canterbury Rural waste is poorly understood. The types and volumes of waste produced and the way it is managed remainssomewhat of a mystery, unlike urban waste management, which has been the primary focus of waste managers for the last few decades. Logistically and financially, good waste management is a difficult proposition for the majority of farmers and, anecdotally, this results in the adoption of less-than-desirable waste management practices, which may be impacting on our environment. In 2012, Environment Canterbury commissioned scoping studies to investigate the management of non-natural rural waste (non-organic, solid waste) generated by farms and agribusinesses in the region. The preliminary studies found that very little rural waste data exists ...

There will be BBQs at RD1 and anyone recycling at the events will enter one of three prize draws. “Taranaki has really increased their recycling of containers through Agrecovery over the last couple of years – from just under 300 kg in 2010-11 up to ...
